Bicester and Villages Area Guide
Bicester is situated in the Cherwell District in the northern part of Oxfordshire, originally a small market town. The countryside surrounding Bicester features green fields and meadows with villages filled with honey-coloured stone buildings. The scenic landscape offers a relaxed and peaceful environment for walking and cycling tours. Especially the Island Pond Wood nature reserve is worth a visit with a nice circular walk around the wood.
The town’s history goes back over a thousand years and many of the buildings in the centre are considered as places of historic interest, while the outskirts are experiencing residential and industrial growth that outstrips much of the rest of the UK. Visit the medieval church of St Edburg’s, the oldest building in Bicester or take a stroll around the Market Square.
Bicester Heritage is fast becoming one of the UKs most special historic vehicle centres of excellence, with sales, servicing, storage and restoration. The monthly “Bicester Scramble” sees over 1,000 vintage and classic cars from all over the country attend, and some from Europe and beyond, all set on the edge of a former RAF base.
Another highlight in Bicester is the delightful gardens of Garth Park which host a summer programme of music events. Kids particularly enjoy the Garth Park Play Area, with a wide selection of playing equipment to explore. On the town’s edge is Bicester village – an enormously popular luxury brand retail outlet with more than 160 boutiques to choose from, covering an area longer then the Champs Elysées!
